Strokes - Bill Graham Civic Auditorium

The Strokes had a reputation for never playing encores.  Well, they played an encore this time, and made a big fuss about playing an encore.

Beck - Palace of Fine Arts

Beck at an intimate sit-down venue - tickets were scarce.  I spent quite a while standing outside the venue before the show asking people if they had any extra tickets for sale, but I wasn't having any luck.  Eventually a nice couple came by with an extra ticket, and they didn't even want any money for it.  Score!

Coldplay - Bimbo's 365 Club

Coldplay was doing a small club tour to promote an upcoming album.  Tickets were severely limited and impossible to get, so I had given up hope of going.  However, Rome gave me a call a couple hours before Coldplay were scheduled to go on stage to tell me that there were a few tickets available at the door.  I made the drive up to the City and managed to make it into the show.

White Stripes - Fillmore

This show was absolutely sold out and I didn't have a ticket - the White Stripes were the hot new thing.  I was on the sidewalk outside of the Fillmore, talking to Rome about trying to get a ticket.  The White Stripes had not taken the stage yet when a man came up and greeted us.  It turned out that he was a member of the White Stripes crew, and he had some extra tickets from the band for fans who were trying to get in.  So, thanks to the White Stripes for comping me into their high-demand show!

Siouxsie & the Banshees - Fillmore

This was the Siouxsie & the Banshees reunion tour.  A San Francisco stop was originally scheduled for the Warfield on April 25.  It was fortunate that I waited to get a ticket because after the Warfield date sold out, this show at the Fillmore was scheduled.  I would rather see shows at the Fillmore than at the Warfield because the Fillmore is smaller and is all general admission while at the Warfield, the balcony is usually reserved seating and it can be difficult to get a ticket for the floor.

Gorillaz - Warfield

It was surprisingly entertaining to watch a concert by a cartoon band.  I was on the floor of the Warfield pretty close to the stage, so I could see real people at the side of the stage behind the large projection screen.  I'm not sure if one of the people I saw was Damon Albarn though.

Death Cab for Cutie/Dismemberment Plan - Bimbo's 365 Club

As part of the Death and Dismemberment tour with Death Cab for Cutie and Dismemberment Plan, the tour made a stop in San Francisco for the Noise Pop 10 music festival.
