most pre-1995 venues are in Vancouver;
1995-1999 venues are mostly in Southern California;
1999-2003 venues are mostly in the SF Bay Area;
most post-2003 venues are in the Pacific Northwest
All photographs on the blog are original and taken by me at the shows that I see. I started taking concert photos in 2006 with camera phones (Motorola/Nokia), but phone cameras at that time were severely limited in low-light situations. Starting in 2007, I experienced a great improvement in photo quality from using a Canon SD700 point-and-shoot camera. Occasionally, I resorted to taking concert photos with an iPhone 3G when the venue barred cameras, or when my camera battery died.
In 2014, I upgraded to a Canon S110 as my primary camera for taking concert photos, and then upgraded again in 2022 to a Panasonic Lumix LX10. Backup devices for concert photos have included a Samsung Galaxy S3, a Samsung Galaxy S7, a Google Pixel 3a, a Google Pixel 6a, and currently a Google Pixel 7a. I also use the phone camera for quick-and-dirty shots for Twitter (now called X).
