New Order/Run Run Run - Queen Elizabeth Theatre

New Order played this same venue twenty-five years ago, as part of the tour for "Technique." Although Peter Hook was missing this time, the current version of the band did a great job in rolling out the hits for the enthusiastic crowd.

New Order - Queen Elizabeth Theatre

The set list hewed closely to what had been performed at recent shows, with a couple of exceptions. "Isolation" was included early in the set as a fourth Joy Division song, adding to the encore of "Transmission," "Atmosphere," and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" that had been played at the Seattle show. These same four Joy Division songs had been played at last year's New Order show in Las Vegas.

For me, the biggest surprise in the set list was the inclusion of "Run Wild" from the "Get Ready" album. Based on the reactions of those around me, this song was not well known among those who came primarily to see "Blue Monday," "True Faith," and "Bizarre Love Triangle."

New Order/Run Run Run - Paramount Theatre

New Order was originally scheduled to play the Sasquatch Festival's July 4th weekend. Fortunately for fans in the Pacific Northwest, that Sasquatch weekend was canceled, and the band scheduled this show at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle to fill out their West Coast tour. It was a fantastic show, and a great chance for many to cross off a New Order show from their bucket list.

I was happy to see performances of the new songs "Singularity" and "Plastic." I especially enjoyed "Plastic," and I look forward to future releases that continue in that direction.

Veruca Salt/Echo Friendly - Mississippi Studios

Veruca Salt started their reunion tour with this stop in Portland, with the original lineup of the band appearing together for the first time in 17 years. The crowd loved every note, every beat and every word.

I had originally seen this lineup 19 years ago, but so many years have passed that I do not remember much from that show. This time around, I sensed that Louise and Nina were having a ton of fun being back together again. Time, maturity, perspective - all these things help to give an appreciation for the joys of life, such as rocking out to great music.

Thanks to the guy at the door of the venue, who directed a spare ticket for this sold out show my way.

Throwing Muses/Tanya Donelly - Aladdin Theater

I first saw the Throwing Muses 25 years ago, opening for New Order. Back then, Tanya Donelly was still a member of the band. When I learned that Tanya would be the Special Guest for this show, I was excited by the possibility that she would join the band for at least a few songs. I was not disappointed. It was wonderful to see Kristin and Tanya on stage together, if only for a handful of songs.

Tanya's opening set included Belly songs such as "Red" and "Low Red Moon/Dusted," as well as Muses tracks such as "Honeychain" and "Not Too Soon." I was surprised that she chose to include Muses songs in the opening set, but they were definitely crowd-pleasers. I was just happy that I was getting to see her perform again.
